Tom Wright's overconfidence is rubbing me the wrong way

This guy clearly thinks that he's personally got a direct access to God's own mind and has an unparalleled personal grasp of the One and Only Correct Understanding of the One and Only Biblical Narrative. It drives me nuts.

Here is his latest appearance in the British media.

Yeah, I just read that article.

Did you ever see the movie 'The Devil's Advocate'? This guy is going to be a great lawyer and it turns out that the devil has been guiding him down the road to evil, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, in the end, the guy rejects the devil and so overcomes the challenge but then this triumph ends up being the thing that goes to his head and leads him astray.

Wright has reminded me of that movie because he was all set to fall down the pit of the Academy but he got out in order to serve the Church and be more genuinely with the people... and then he falls down the pit of the Anglican schism and all their bullshit around homosexuality.

Too bad.

Be more genuinely with the people? I'm going to stop now or my criticism (as a Durham resident) will be turning downright nasty, with lots of F words for good measure.

I haven't seen the movie, but it seems like a good analogy, and a good movie.

Yeah, I'm not saying that he has succeeded in being more genuinely with people, but he certainly has spoken along those lines about his transition from the Academy to the Church.

Also, 'The Devil's Advocate' isn't really that great of a movie. I have, however, been watching and rewatching 'Pan's Labyrinth'. Hot damn. That movie might be the movie that most accurately reflect the world as I understand it.
